Cutting the cord

to reliance on ready made clothes: that’s me these past years. If it one thing I’ve learned, it’s that sometimes when you think something is going to turn out too goofy to wear, it doesn’t. And vice versa. Form your own opinion on this ‘un.

It isn’t my original idea (well, maybe using Chinese Knot cord with button knots at the ends for the drawstring is) and I post credit where credit is due. My version is based on this. Cut all the way up the center of the T of your choice,

cut off the neck binding,

press the CUT edge over by about an inch (no more) for a channel – miter the corners where the front cut meets the neckline

stitch said channel — you’ll start at the lower edge, go up and around the neckline then down the other side in one seam. Insert some number three black Chinese Knot cord (or ribbon, or whatever you have to hand)

and think about where you left your black tank top so you can wear it out tonight to the Fringe!

I might do button knots at the ends of the cord once I decide the length needed (remember, a button knot in #3 takes about six inches) but there might be a pair of SSP Fun Fun beads that could be…er…fun to use. I’ll be having a look while waiting for Himself to get home from his very windy golf club competition.

Vomit Top II update

After washing and drying the lime green T refashion

my lettuce edge turned into baby leaf (vs. full grown head leaves). This is not a bad thing. A bad thing would be the block I have hit with this re-refashion of a dress from A Year Without Clothes:

It was a so-so refashion: the sleeves were taken off and the early 90s square neck dealt with but I was sort of ‘meh’. I bought this Laura Ashley fabric on our honeymoon for 2 quid a metre at the Regent Street store so the dress was too sentimental to give away when I had my great clear out a while back. It was supposed to be on Wardrobe Refashion by now but between the block and lots of house sewing (curtains for the main guest room, cushions, a bedspread for the little guest room/office, cover for the futon in the conservatory) it isn’t going to happen today.

The collar is off (for the moment) but when I get stuck like this I know it is best to switch gears. This too-wild-a-print-for-me top from my sister’s refashion donations is on the dress form now: the challenge is to do something to it before she, her husband and my nephew arrive next Wednesday!
